Hey folks (long time, no post, I know!), Chris and I were given the task of taking care of ALL of Annette's school fundraisers (her mother refuses to do it). Anyway, we are currently selling (hawking) products from Claire's Gourmet to raise money for Annette's school (cookies, cakes, pizza, pretzels, etc...). Due to the technology advancements since we were kids, people can now order stuff online. I ask that you guys at least check it out....order something if you wish (no pressure). www.clairesgourmet.com If you decided to order something, the Group Code at checkout is #1199 and the student name is Annette Hughes. Please consider helping us out! Chris, Annette, and I thank you for reading this! :) |

After 37297 miles of driving, $42,000 dollars, and two years of having no life, I finished all the work for my Masters tonight. Graduation is on Saturday morning!
Congrats to everyone who is donning the funny caps and gowns (and hoods!) the next few weeks. We did it! |

This week, I started a job as a Program Aide with this place:
http://www.boardofchildcare.org/index.html
Basically, I will be waking 10 teenage girls up at 6:30AM, taking them to the on-campus school, monitoring their behavior, etc. It pays a quite low 21,000 dollars a year, but the benefits are nice.
I'd write more about it, but it's only my second day and have no clue about the job really. |

Why the HELL was Kellie Pickler safe? And while I'm asking why the hell....why the HELL was Chris Daughtry in the Bottom Three?
....eh, it's not like the votes matter anyway; which is why I don't vote. |

Who's name does this spell unscrambled?
YIECCAHKNL
Allegedly, it's an entertainer with four letters in the first name and a six letter last name. |

| Dan's a star (sort of) |

A few of you out there know Levis (AKA Dan), so you may get a kick out of an article that was written in his hometown newspaper about his time in Iraq. If you go to this website: http://www.hgazette.com/ you can't miss it.
My personal favorite: "The whole reason to go into the Middle East was for weapons of mass destruction which were never really found," Levis said. "I don't think it's the job of the U.S. Army to protect the people of Iraq. The Army is not a charity. Our job is to protect the United States." |

My horoscope for today is way too correct:
Stepping forward into a brave new emotional world often entails some kind of upheaval, but what's the worst that could happen? You have so much to gain if you make a move, and plenty to lose if you stay mired in an increasingly stale situation. Ditch the stagnation and do everything you can to move forward. You've grown too much and come too far to let a case of nerves stop you. Feel the fear and do it anyway. |

| A whole new world...and it smells like a cow field. |
[Aug. 29th, 2005|03:10 pm] |
Live from the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library on the campus of Shippensburg University, I'm now actually finding myself embarking on the next big step in my life. I have now collectively spent an hour on campus and have accomplished (and realized) many things already (while finding myself more daunted than I did my freshman year at WVU): 1) I know where to park my car. 2) I have managed to find the building where all of my classes are in. Hell, all of my classes are in the same ROOM! 3) I realized that I don't have to buy any books (hooray for Graduate School!) 4) I've already noticed the campus has a faint smell of a cow field and because of this I am seriously considering commuting for the next two years. The town is lovely, but I don't know if I could handle living here after Baltimore, Valencia, and even Morgantown. 5) Freshman look even tinier when you are a grad student than when they did when you were a senior. 6) Oh, so THAT'S the student union. 7) It takes 1 hour and 5 minutes to go 54 miles; this includes a mandatory stop for Diet Coke and Pennsylvania road construction on I-81. 8) No one answers their damn cell phones at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. 9) Thank God for my iPod. 10) I know no one. Of course, if I stare at someone hard enough they MAY look like someone I know; however, I really DON'T know a damn soul.
Two hours until orientation, 3 1/2 hours until my only class of the day (a three hour long statistics class)...perhaps I should try to figure out who my advisor is and explore the psychology department. Yes, folks, I have arrived onto the scene as the confused Graduate Student! |

| Twas the night before grad school, and I'm actually going! |
[Aug. 28th, 2005|09:13 pm] |

...So begins my new life as a graduate student at Shippensburg University (in the cow fields of South Central PA). Gone are the days where I had a job that paid more than minimum wage (though, I like the free tuition) and the freedom of living on my own (I'm not complaining about free food, no rent, and free laundry though). Here to stay are the seemingly never-ending days of commuting (Welcome to Maryland! Welcome to Pennsylvania! Welcome to West Virginia!). Now, my friends, I'm in it for the long haul, two more years of college (and four more after that)...and I could not be loving life anymore than I do right now. After so much uncertainty, changes in plans, and fear of the future, I find myself boldly going where I've never gone before! |

I'm still alive! In the past few weeks you have missed:
1) The fact that Mom's mass isn't cancerous. Once they were about to do the second biopsy, they realized the mass responded to antibiotics and has now shrunken to half it's size. 2) I have now lost 36 lbs. 3) In a huge shocker, I have quit smoking. It's been two weeks, and I'm still going strong. 4) I registered for classes at Shippensburg today. 5) I'm leaving my job, shitty apartment, and Baltimore on August 19th. |

This evening could not possibly BE more up and down:
Tonight, I found out that an unknown mass was found on one of my Mom's lungs yesterday. She has been sick for almost two months, and we have not been able to figure out what is going on. After a battery of tests proved inconclusive, it was decided that on Tuesday, she will be having a biopsy to determine if it is a result of infection, a tumor, or something else. We'll get the results next week and find out what happens next. Needless to say, this is probably one of the scariest things I've been through.
While crying my ass off over Chinese takeout, I got a fortune cookie that said: "You are the type of person who goes places."
Then, while trying to keep my mind off of things, I checked my application status for the Grad Program at Shippensburg, and I just found out that I've been accepted. My plans for this fall are now etched in stone: I will be living at home for awhile and commuting the 45 minutes while substituting for Jefferson County Schools during the day. Once I save some money, I'll probably get an apartment there and establish Pennsylvania residency. I'm deferring Fayetteville for one semester as a back up plan. |
